To sign an assembly with a strong name, you must have a public/private key pair. This public and private cryptographic key pair is used during compilation to create a strong-named assembly. You can create a key pair using the Strong Name tool (Sn.exe). Key pair files usually have an .snk extension.

Note
In Visual Studio, the C# and Visual Basic project property pages include a Signing tab that enables you to select existing key files or to generate new key files without using Sn.exe. In Visual C++, you can specify the location of an existing key file in the Advanced property page in the Linker section of the Configuration Properties section of the Property Pages window. The use of the AssemblyKeyFileAttribute attribute to identify key file pairs was made obsolete beginning with Visual Studio 2005.
Create a key pair
To create a key pair, at a command prompt, type the following command:
sn –k <file name>

In this command, file name is the name of the output file containing the key pair.
Jul 30, 2015 RSA is the only recommended choice for new keys, so this guide uses 'RSA key' and 'SSH key' interchangeably. Key-based authentication uses two keys, one 'public' key that anyone is allowed to see, and another 'private' key that only the owner is allowed to see. Oct 05, 2007 In this post I will walk you through generating RSA and DSA keys using ssh-keygen. Public key authentication for SSH sessions are far superior to any password authentication and provide much higher security. Ssh-keygen is the basic way for generating keys for such kind of authentication. I will also explain how to maintain those keys.
The following example creates a key pair called sgKey.snk.
If you intend to delay sign an assembly and you control the whole key pair (which is unlikely outside test scenarios), you can use the following commands to generate a key pair and then extract the public key from it into a separate file. First, create the key pair:
Next, extract the public key from the key pair and copy it to a separate file:
Once you create the key pair, you must put the file where the strong name signing tools can find it.
When signing an assembly with a strong name, the Assembly Linker (Al.exe) looks for the key file relative to the current directory and to the output directory. When using command-line compilers, you can simply copy the key to the current directory containing your code modules.

If you are using an earlier version of Visual Studio that does not have a Signing tab in the project properties, the recommended key file location is the project directory with the file attribute specified as follows:

On Windows, you can create SSH keys in many ways. This document explains how to use two SSH applications, PuTTY and Git Bash.
Joyent recommends RSA keys because the node-manta CLI programs work with RSA keys both locally and with the ssh agent. DSA keys will work only if the private key is on the same system as the CLI, and not password-protected.
PuTTY
PuTTY is an SSH client for Windows. You can use PuTTY to generate SSH keys. PuTTY is a free open-source terminal emulator that functions much like the Terminal application in macOS in a Windows environment. This section shows you how to manually generate and upload an SSH key when working with PuTTY in the Windows environment.
About PuTTY
PuTTY is an SSH client for Windows that you will use to generate your SSH keys. You can download PuTTY from www.chiark.greenend.org.uk.
When you install the PuTTY client, you also install the PuTTYgen utility. PuTTYgen is what you will use to generate your SSH key for a Windows VM.
Fire up a command prompt and cd to the folder that contains your.pfx file. First type the first command to extract the private key: openssl pkcs12 -in yourfile.pfx -nocerts -out keyfile-encrypted.key What this command does is extract the private key from the.pfx file. Once entered you need to type in the importpassword of the.pfx file. Jun 16, 2018 It can be converted to CRT and KEY files using SSL: openssl pkcs12 -in certfile.pfx-nocerts -out keyfile-encrypted.key. When you enter this command you will be asked to type in the pfx file password in order to extract the key. You will be asked to enter a passphrase for the encrypted key. The key will be stored in keyfile-encrypted.key. Extracting certificate and private key information from a Personal Information Exchange (.pfx) file with OpenSSL: Open Windows File Explorer. Copy your.pfx file to a computer that has OpenSSL installed, notating the file path. Certificate.pfx files are usually password protected. Obtain the password for your.pfx file. This article will walk a user through the process of converting a.pfx file to a.crt and.key file so that the SSL certificate can be uploaded into the StackPath control panel. A.pfx file is a PKCS#12 archive: a file that can contain a lot of objects with optional password protection; but, usually.

Generating an SSH key
To generate an SSH key with PuTTYgen, follow these steps:
Importing your SSH key
Now you must import the copied SSH key to the portal.
PuTTY and OpenSSH use different formats of public SSH keys. If the text you pasted in the SSH Key starts with
—— BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY , it is in the wrong format. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully. Your key should start with ssh-rsa AAAA… .
Once you upload your SSH key to the portal, you can connect to your virtual machine from Windows through a PuTTY session.
Git Bash
The Git installation package comes with SSH. Using Git Bash, which is the Git command line tool, you can generate SSH key pairs. Git Bash has an SSH client that enables you to connect to and interact with Triton containers on Windows.
To install Git:
When the installation completes, you may need to restart Windows.
Launching GitBash
To open Git Bash, we recommend launching the application from the Windows command prompt:
Generating SSH keys
First, create the SSH directory and then generate the SSH key pair.

One assumption is that the Windows profile you are using is set up with administrative privileges. Given this, you will be creating the SSH directory at the root of your profile, for example:
Uploading an SSH key
To upload the public SSH key to your Triton account:
When Triton finishes the adding or uploading process, the public SSH key appears in the list of SSH keys.
